Hi, I’m Micaela

Hi! I'm Micaela Tanguay. My journey to cosmetology was a bit unconventional. I attended Maine Maritime Academy after highschool and graduated with my bachelors in International business & Logistics. I worked in my respective field for 2 years then decided the corporate world was not for me. I gave my notice, and jumped head first into the world of cosmetology!

After graduating cosmetology school from Paul Mitchell the School Portsmouth, I began my career as a stylist in downtown Portland. There I refined my skills and grew as a stylist. I decided I needed a change and jumped head first (notice a trend?) into my independent career here at The Hair Garden, where I now Offer Services with a focus on connecting with each client personally. 

My true passion lies in creating memorable looks for photoshoots, events, and weddings, where I can help clients feel radiant and confident. From makeup artistry to hair styling, I love the creative energy of preparing someone for life’s big moments. My 4 years at Sephora also helped me hone my makeup skills and build connections with people from all walks of life.

Beyond hair, I’m an enthusiast of history, travel, and getting to know each of my clients as unique individuals (and yes, I’ll probably remember your pet’s name before yours!). Whether you’re here for an ear to chat with or simply to relax in a welcoming space, I’m here to make every visit as enjoyable as possible.

  • “This is a beautiful salon that the owner, Audrey, has absolutely poured her heart and soul into making an absolute sanctuary for everyone who has ever set foot.

    Micaela Tanguay has been my makeup artist for multiple photoshoots over the past year and I would never do my own makeup for a shoot again after working with her. She’s kind, she’s patient with clients who aren’t entirely sure what they are need for their makeup, and she is easily one of the most talented MUA’s I’ve ever met. She has been able to do my makeup to match the mood of every shoot I’ve enlisted her help for (see attached photos of her range of work!) I also am extremely pale and have had bad experiences with MUA’s washing me out, not matching my skin tone, making my lipstick too dark, all the nightmares… I honestly didn’t think I could LIKE getting my makeup done until I met Micaela. She is an expert in her craft and has always been so considerate to my pale skin tone, never making me embarrassed or worried about past concerns. If you need your makeup done for any event, see her! You can completely trust her and you will not regret it!

    And if you need any service done, treat yourself to Audrey’s gorgeous space. Having beauty services should not be stressful and this is somewhere you can go to check your stress at the door and do something for yourself. These ladies are amazing!”
